Medieval Tibeto-Burman Languages Symposium
on 1 September 2010
A major aim of this meeting is to stimulate interaction among scholars working on different languages in Tibeto-Burman and approaching them from different perspectives.  Papers will cover the primary texts in the older Tibeto-Burman languages, whether the focus be linguistic, philological, textual, historical or literary.  Contributions on Tibeto-Burman languages with a pre-modern literary tradition are also included: Bailang, Burmese, Lepcha, Manipuri, Nam, Naxi, Tangut, Tibetan, Yi, and Zhangzhung.

Keynote address
“The use of numerals as abbreviations in Old and Middle Burmese”
Professor Rudolf Yanson (St Petersburg State University)

16th Himalayan Languages Symposium
2-5 September 2010
The Himalayan Languages Symposium was first held at Leiden University in 1995 and is now well-established an as an annual open forum for scholars of all aspects of Himalayan languages. The focus of the conference is geographical rather than language-based, reflecting the huge linguistic diversity of the Himalaya, and the depth of contact and syncretism between Himalayan languages and cultures.

Keynote address
"Dialectology and language change: paths to tone in Tamangish languages"
Martine Mazaudon, CNRS, Paris
